Any of three identical oil paintings by Vincent van Gogh from 1889 that are a part of his wheat field series is titled "A Wheatfield with Cypresses." All were displayed at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole mental hospital at Saint-Rémy, close to Arles, France, where Vincent van Gogh resided voluntarily from May 1889 to May 1890. The artwork was motivated by the asylum's window view of the Alpilles mountains. Golden fields of ripe wheat, a dark fastigiate Provençal cypress towering like a green obelisk to the right, and lighter green olive trees in the middle distance are all depicted in the painting. Hills and mountains can also be seen in the background, and above the scene are covered in white clouds circling in a clear blue sky.
